Spring and Summer Classes and Retreats

HUBBARD HALL Projects OFFERS WOOD CARVING WEEKEND!

Hubbard Hall Projects invites you to spend the weekend in the beautiful Battenkill Valley during its Wood Carving course taught by Gerry Holzman. From May 30 through June 1, master carver Gerry Holzman offers a unique course in carving a caricature of the human face. More information here

Using deep-relief wooden heads from the Hotel Buffalo Ratskellar (circa 1900) as models, students will be guided through the process to carve a full-size replica of a portrait head. Since each model is unique, participants will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of expressions-some humorous, some grotesque and some serenely benign. Contact Hubbard Hall for more information.

Songwriters Exchange
at Pompanuck Farm

This monthly event Pompanuck's Round House
offers a beautiful, relaxed and intimate setting for live performances and fluid conversation about the creative process. "Inspired" was the word of the evening as audience members and performers engaged in thinking together about this mysterious subject of songwriting- from individual methods and inspiration, to the song that just "bubbles up" as compared to the concept of crafting a song over time, from the importance of songs that have "moved mountains" in history to the equal importance of the restorative effects of playing for oneself.

Pompanuck Farm also has a Summer Vacation Enrichment Program for elementary and middle school aged children. Circus Nature and Art experiences 9am to 3 pm daily.

Independent Study with Salem Art Works

Assorted summer programs and residencies working in various artistice mediums. Click here for Full catalog

Salem Art Works is offering college students and throughout the country use of our multi-disciplinary arts farm in Washington County, New York. We are a platform for independent work accredited through the sponsoring school; students have the opportunity to take advanced classes with leaders in their field of study alongside deep intellectual immersion with artists from an array of backgrounds.
For the entire month of July, students will be able to work freely anywhere on our 119-acre property and will be given room, board and their own studio space. Salem Art Works Director Anthony Cafritz, an arts educator and practicing artist, will produce clear and decisive evaluations of each student’s curricular activities over the course of the month-long intensive.

Residency Workshops A series of ten-day residency workshops will be offered throughout the season. Participants will learn to make various types of molds and create cast iron sculptures. Discussion of projects and individual instruction
will give way to demonstrations of the techniques learned. Each will culminate in an iron pour, a rigorous and demanding process that allows for each participant to work within his or her own capacity. Whether you’ve casted before or not, this workshop residency will provide an excellent opportunity for personal and artistic growth.
